Covenant Eyes is a very effective paid parental control and accountability software to help men and women pursue purity and live a life free of porn and lust in general. While it does have some issues, I have been using it for about 6 months for myself and as an accountability partner for other men and have found it to be very helpful, effective, and worth the money.

For a long time, I just used the free built-in Screen Time filters available for all Apple devices, but there is no accountability built into Screen Time, which is the main way Covenant Eyes stands out. With Screen Time, it doesn’t block everything, and having Covenant Eyes’s Screen Accountability, which screenshots everything and highlights anything concerning for your accountability partners to see, gives added protection and motivation to find freedom from lust.

Is Covenant Eyes Worth It?

Yes, Covenant Eyes is worth it if you want to pursue purity to the next level and are tired of the limitations of a free blocker that has loopholes. Covenant Eyes works on all major platforms, such as Apple iOS, Mac, Android, and Windows, so you can have protection across your computer, phone, and tablet.

It has advanced filtering and a porn blocker for protection from getting to inappropriate websites. It will also tell the accountability partners which site they tried to reach. Then, if you were to find a loophole, the screen accountability will capture a screenshot of it so your accountability partner can come alongside you to call you to more and add any additional blocks that need to be put in place, like blocking a specific website.

How Much Does Covenant Eyes Cost?

Right now, Covenant Eyes costs $18 a month, $184 per year, or $850 for a one-time fee. This allows for up to 10 users, where each user can have unlimited devices and accountability partners. This is on par with other paid parental control apps out there, but Covenant Eyes is one of the few to offer a lifetime or one-time fee option. This is huge because we should always have our guard up against lust, and to pay for this software, our whole life would get expensive.

Another great part of this pricing is that you can have up to 10 users. This is great for a family or even a group of friends. I personally bought the lifetime plan and then split the cost with my church’s small group. We are all able to have our own accounts while sharing the cost. Pros and Cons of Covenant Eyes

Covenant Eyes is a software, but there are a few pros and cons to consider based on my personal experience with the software. Some of the main advantages are that it works even in incognito mode and mixed-content sites, reporting flagged explicit material to an accountability partner. While it offers advanced filtering and is easy to set up, it can slow down devices, especially older ones. Additionally, its screen accountability features are limited on iPhones/iPads (only working in Safari and not within most apps). Below is a more complete breakdown of my pros and cons.

Pros of Covenant Eyes:

• Works across devices such as your phone, tablet, and computer.
• Screenshots everything and flags anything questionable.
• It isn’t fooled by incognito mode since it doesn’t just filter but actually scans the content of the screen.
• Flags anything explicit, even if it is on a Google Search or mixed content site like Reddit. Many filtering apps miss this because the website itself isn’t an explicit website, but since Covenant Eyes looks at what is on the screen, it is able to capture it as an issue still to report to accountability.
• Accountability is built into the whole ecosystem.
• Advanced filters for blocking explicit content like porn.
• On Android, screen accountability works across the whole device, and your browser doesn’t matter. While for iPhones or iPads, that only works in Safari.
• Easy to initially set up and ongoing use.
• Tailored filters to your needs.
• A lifetime purchase option is available.
• While the app can be removed, you can disable app removal via Screen Time settings on iOS, and the app will let accountability partners know if the app was removed.
• Works great in conjunction with built-in filters like Screen Time and Family Link for the best protection.
• Great for anyone who struggles with lust or just wants added protection.

Cons of Covenant Eyes:

• It tends to slow down your device. This is the biggest issue I have with it. If you have an older device, the speed issues can be even more of an issue. I noticed that when my phone’s storage was full, it would have the most speed issues. Once I freed up space, it would be fast again.
• If on an iPhone or iPad, you have to use Safari for the screen accountability to work, and can’t use Chrome or any other browsers.
  • Additionally, on iPhone or iPad, it only does screen accountability in the Safari app, so apps like social media or dating apps wouldn’t be scanned. However, these apps could be blocked by using Apple’s Screen Time as a workaround.
• It seems to have some trouble with multiple monitors with capturing screenshots if you use more than one monitor for your computer.
• The blurry screenshots used for reporting issues to accountability can sometimes not be blurred enough and can be a stumbling block (Romans 14:13) for the accountability partner. At the moment, there is no way to increase the amount of blur, but for the most explicit screenshots, it does ask you before showing it.
• Some people report it hurting their battery life, but I haven’t personally experienced this to be a big issue.
• The notifications to your accountably partners can be delayed more than I’d like. I would like to see them right in the moment, but sometimes it will let me know a few hours later, or I won’t see anything until I check my app.
